AFRICA. Sheet measures 13 3/4" h x 17 1/4" w (35 x 44 cm); map measures 12" h x 15 3/4" w. (30.5 x 38 cm). Full original hand-coloring. Includes smaller inset map of the Liberian Coast and Monrovia. This map depicts a continent that remained largely unexplored. The "Mountains of Kong" and the "Mountains of the Moon" divide Africa into north and south. Central Africa is largely unmarked and simply labeled "Ethiopia." Paper's margins are browned, and show some faint dampstains and chipping. It is noteworthy in that it shows Greece shortly after it achieved independence from the Ottomans. Map includes an insert of Crete ("Candia"). 018005

Elevation of key cities and landmarks worldwide are also noted. The chart makes some interesting errors (e.g., the Missouri is listed as the world longest river at "4,100 miles.")
